Pressure Washing and Paint Removal in Orlando, FL
This is a return customer and once again, they trusted Castle Wash for this task. I was commissioned to remove paint from concrete. As we know, paint doesn’t last forever. This paint was left over from the previous owner and was supposed to help keep oil from deteriorating the concrete. It may or may not have worked, but one thing is for sure, it was a patchy eyesore and had to go!
Removing paint can be tricky. The average person will only try to pressure wash it and peel it off that way. Remember, most concrete has a surface PSI tolerance of 3000-5000psi. This is, assuming it’s been mixed and poured correctly and then not abused with chemicals and excessive wear. In this case, the concretes surface was near perfect condition save a few areas with some cracks and depressions. Most gasoline powered pressure washers can easily exceed 3500PSI and if paired with the right(wrong) tip, severe damage can occur!
A chemical stripper is the best way to remove paint. A high-quality paint stripper will penetrate the layers of paint and break it down at a molecular level. As I applied the thick gel, it became gummy and tacky to the touch, not to mention slippery (be careful when walking on it). Then I used a surface cleaner with rotating water jets to “scrub” the concrete clear of the paint. Previously, I mentioned how high-pressure water can damage concrete. In this scenario, I was able to adjust my surface-cleaner to suit this situation, resulting in no damage! Having introduced water to the area, the chemical stripper was now chemically deactivated and safe for the environment. However, it also meant I could not re-apply stripper to the left-over paint until dry.
Now, while the first application made a huge difference, I advised the customer to wait 2-3 days to determine whether or not he wanted another service. This allowed the suns heat and UV to lighten and work on the left-over paint a bit for free. However, he elected me to return and give another coat. The results speak for themselves! All that is left is some shadow of previous oil spills from over a decade ago. Either way, a professional using contractor grade products can deliver fantastic results!
